The Brakebush Internship Experience: 
The internship will be hosted at our corporate campus located in Westfield, Wisconsin! Brakebush Summer internships take place at our corporate headquarters located in Westfield, Wisconsin. These internships run from Monday to Friday and are primarily office-based, with the option for a flexible work schedule as required and approved by each department.
 
Our internship program empowers you to learn and grow through activities including meeting our executives, plant tours, networking sessions and more. Your perspective and experience are valued as a part of our team.  Summer internships at Brakebush are project-based. Interns experience a variety of projects that can include data collection, analysis, reporting, data entry, policy and procedure, market research and more. At the end of the summer internship program, we host a banquet, so interns have an opportunity to showcase their projects to various leaders within Brakebush. 


Our immersive summer internship program offers opportunities for interns to learn about Brakebush culture, operations and more. Our goal is that interns have a better understanding of the business and challenges of their assigned department, and a greater knowledge of what leads to success in a food manufacturing business.  We are passionate about what we do. Summer Program – June to August 
The 12-week immersive Internship summer program begins on June 2nd- August 22nd

Summer Internship General Qualifications:  

  • Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree
  • Junior or Senior (min. completed 60 credits)
  • Currently holding a GPA of 2.75 or higher 


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Strong communicator, public speaking experience, and relationship builder 
  • Able to work autonomously and with a team 
  • Strength with strategic, analytical thinking and attention to detail 
  • Positive attitude and adaptability 
  • Use of MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and Teams; Emphasis on your incredible Excel skills

Internship Project Overview


What will you learn? 
As a Microbiology Intern, you will learn about Brakebush microbiological food safety programs including environmental monitoring, laboratory test methods, verification testing, and more.


You will gain On-The-Job experience in the following business areas: 

  • Metrics reporting, KPI’s, trend review, statistical process control
  • Microbiological testing in an industrial and laboratory environment
  • Learn how to interpret data while gaining hands on experience 


Our 12-Week Microbiology internship project involves several key functions: 
Essential Accountabilities:

  • Ongoing EMP Review and environmental monitoring program to identify opportunities for improvement in Brakebush programs
  • GLPs- Good Lab Practices- Learn Lab techniques and lab practices used in the Brakebush microbiology lab
  • Assist laboratory technicians with daily tasks and prep work


Who would be Successful in this opportunity?  
Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or related fields in sciences with lab experience
  • Use of MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams)


Work Environment: This job operates in both the laboratory and office environment, with periodic time spent on a refrigerated manufacturing production floor. This position will at time work in areas of high noise and varied temperatures (warm to cold). Slippery floors, moving equipment, and dust may be present.  Personal protective equipment will be worn as necessary or required.  


Physical Demands: Position will include extensive standing at times, sitting, lifting, wearing factory required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds and driving.
