JOB DESCRIPTION 


Summary: The Maintenance & Utilities Manager oversees all plant maintenance and utilities team members, programs, and ensures plant system efficiencies and reliability. This position will provide guidance for preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance procedures.

Essential Functions: 

  • Provides Engineering Support. The incumbent will seek to drive plant performance to greater levels. The incumbent will act as a Project Manager assisting Corporate Engineers with various tasks. 
  • Provides Leadership to the Maintenance/Utilities team. The incumbent manages the activities of the maintenance supervisors and team and is responsible for the overall production maintenance and parts inventory function for the facility. The incumbent mentors and motivates supervisors and technicians, providing training and development to optimize their performance and personal growth. 
  • Ensures Plant System efficiencies. The incumbent performs highly diversified duties to install and maintain utility systems such as the plant ammonia refrigeration system, boiler and steam systems, plant hydraulic pressure producing system, forklift and pallet jack maintenance, plant water systems (hot and cold), plant exterior grounds appearance, office HVAC systems, and plant waste disposal systems. The incumbent develops and maintains programs, such as Preventative Maintenance, Downtime Analysis, etc. which will enable the plant to continuously improve its equipment utilization, productivity, and efficiency. Works with Scheduling and Production to coordinate, plan and execute plant downtime to facilitate equipment installation or repair projects.
  • Oversees the PSM program. The incumbent will ensure compliance in our Process Safety Management Program and is responsible to oversee implementation and enforcement of the program including employee training, documentation, and the reporting of metrics. 


Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Industrial Technology or eight plus years of plant engineering or maintenance experience, including at least five years of supervision.  
  • Demonstrated application of industrial engineering methods. 
  • Proven working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems - Ammonia Refrigeration Certification. 
  • Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma knowledge.
  • Proven project management work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, USDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Food Safety (SQF) and HACCP.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, to include professional oral and written communication, a team-focused approach, and the ability to model composure/make decisions in stressful situations.  
  • Proven time-management and organizational/office skills including competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams); ability to write reports and create spreadsheets with formulas.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Plant Maintenance experience preferably from a USDA facility
  • Experience working in a Portioning or further-processed poultry production facility
  • Experience with SAP 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of general First Aid and CPR


Supervisory Responsibility: This position will manage the Maintenance and Refrigeration Supervisors and technicians on all three shifts at the facility.


Work Environment:  Wide variations in environment temperature (-10 freezer, 32-degree coolers, 40-degree plant, wet cold environment) noise, slippery floors and moving equipment. 


Physical Demands: Position will include extensive standing, sitting, lifting, wearing factory required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds and driving.


Travel: Occasional travel to Corporate Headquarters or other production locations, as necessary.
