JOB DESCRIPTION


Summary: The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the coordination of maintenance work orders and effective utilization of the team to address plant process, equipment, and facility upkeep. With a “One Team, One Mission” approach, this position collaborates across shifts and with multiple departments (Production, Utilities, Planning, Safety) to support consistent yields, minimize down time and enforce HACCP, USDA, and food safety protocol. 


Essential Functions: 

  • Supervises the activities of Maintenance Techs and apprentices to track completion of work orders, planned repairs/projects and preventative maintenance. Includes administration of scheduling, time and attendance, performance feedback and follow-up to ensure optimal job performance.
  • Coordinates on and troubleshoots major maintenance projects with Maintenance team, plant engineers and Continuous Improvement. 
  • Ensures quick and effective response to line breakdowns. Investigates and completes failure analysis on work order challenges and works through appropriate actions with teams to prevent future breakdowns. 
  • Communicates with Supervisors across shifts and departments regularly to coordinate maintenance activities with Production schedules; provide breakdown and equipment repair status reports.
  • Will be cross trained to support Utilities Department on off shifts and in the absence of Plant Engineer/Utilities Manager.


Required Qualifications: 

  • Seven or more years’ experience in an Industrial Mechanics/related position OR an Industrial Mechanics’ degree/equivalent technical diploma and 5 years plant maintenance experience.
  • Three years in a leadership and/or project management role
  • Strong interpersonal skills, to include professional oral and written communication, a team-focused approach, and the ability to model composure/make decisions in stressful situations.  
  • After one year this position will be required to achieve operator 1 certification from an Ammonia Refrigeration training center.
  • After 3 years this position will be required to achieve operator 2 certification from an Ammonia Refrigeration training center.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in food manufacturing facilities (esp. poultry) 
  • Regulatory compliance knowledge, including USDA regulations, HACCP, GMP and Food Safety (SQF) 
  • Strong computerized maintenance management system knowledge 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) 


Supervisory Responsibility: This position will supervise 10-12 maintenance/utility team members.


Work Environment: Wide variations in environment temperature (-10 freezer, 32-degree coolers, 40-degree plant, wet cold environment) dust, noise, slippery floors and moving equipment, wearing appropriate PPE is required. 


Physical Demands: Position will include extensive standing, sitting, lifting, wearing factory required equipment while working in production, walking, climbing stairs, visual inspections, quick responses to equipment/team needs. 


Travel: Some travel may be required in this position to assist in other facilities. (Less than 5%)
