JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary: The Utilities Supervisor is responsible for the management of the Mocksville PSM, Utilities and power industrial trucks, programs and ensuring plant system efficiencies. This position is also responsible for the management, development, training, and support of the PSM Coordinator and all Utility technicians.

Essential Functions:

Performs highly diversified duties to lead and manage technical maintenance activities, troubleshooting and repair of utility systems: Systems such as the plant ammonia refrigeration system, electrical switchgear, boiler and steam systems, thermal boiler system, plant hydraulic pressure producing system, forklift and pallet jack maintenance, plant water systems (hot and cold), plant exterior grounds appearance, office HVAC systems, and plant fire control systems. Implements and improves current preventative and predictive maintenance programs (SAP). Performs inspections of PSM required preventative maintenance schedules and uses root cause analysis using 5 Why and functional logic tree.

Empowers team members: Providing leadership & technical supervision, training, daily/monthly meetings, and open and honest feedback opportunities in both directions. Communicating team goals and results to reinforce positive work.

Ensures compliance of company policies and procedures: PSM/RMP regulations, safety regulations, GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP and SQF. Member of HACCP Team and HAZMAT Team.

Assists with new projects: Provides cost estimates, scope of work, time frame, warranties, etc. and provides monthly progress reports.

Provides back-up support to Maintenance and Utilities Manager:  Fills in for the Maintenance and Utilities Manager during absences and rotates weekend PM coverage with maintenance supervisors as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Demonstrated six-years of ammonia refrigeration experience AND three-plus years of leadership experience.
• Proven working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems - Ammonia Refrigeration Certification, Operator Level I, II and III. Operator Level I, II required. Operator Level III must be obtained within 12 months.
• Proven working knowledge of Process Safety Management - PSM/RMP Certification must be obtained within 18 months.

• Strong interpersonal skills, to include professional oral and written communication, a team-focused approach, and the ability to model composure/make decisions in stressful situations.
• Able to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in a poultry or food processing facility
• Prior experience with SAP
• Experience in root cause analysis using Five Whys and Functional Logic Tree
• Working knowledge of OSHA, USDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Food Safety (SQF) and HACCP.
• Competent in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Knowledge of general First Aid and CPR and HAZMAT 
  
  

Supervisory Responsibility: This position is responsible for supervising the PSM coordinator, utility technicians, power industrial truck technicians on all shifts.

Work Environment: Wide variations in environment temperature (-10 freezer, 32-degree coolers, 40-degree plant, wet cold environment) noise, slippery floors and moving equipment. 

Physical Demands: Position will include extensive standing at times, sitting, lifting, wearing factory required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds and driving.

Position Type: This is an exempt - first shift position.  Some evening and weekend work required as needed.

Travel: Some travel maybe required for trainings and classes.
