JOB DESCRIPTION  
 
Summary:  The Sanitation Manager oversees all plant Sanitation and Food Safety programs. The position is responsible for management of plant cleaning, sanitation, regulatory requirements, sanitation policies and procedures. 
 
Essential Functions: 

  • Empowers team members, through supervision, training, and feedback opportunities, to meet and exceed expectations for productivity, quality assurance, waste management and food/personal safety.  
  • Plans, manages, and directs plant sanitation procedures, programs, and regulatory requirements, ensuring all plant equipment is clean and safe for production. Ensures compliance of company policies and procedures, safety regulations, GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP and SQF.  
  • Mentors and motivates associates, providing training and development to optimize their performance and personal growth. Communicates performance standards to associates, recognizing and rewarding individual and team accomplishments and counseling performance problems. Ensures all associates have the resources and capabilities to effectively accomplish their responsibilities.  
  • Monitors rodent and insect control program and microbiological reports from the plant to determine whether cleaning procedures are being followed.  
  • Participates in regular meetings with plant management to discuss quality and sanitation improvements. Facilitates problem resolution related to sanitation and quality issues.  


Required Qualifications:   

  • Five years of supervisory experience in a food-processing, pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing organization, preferably using computerized manufacturing equipment.  
  • Working knowledge of sanitation chemicals usage and applications.  
  • Working knowledge of USDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation processes/procedures and HACCP.  
  • Demonstrated understanding of production scheduling and other production variables such as run-rates, processing times, change-over times, etc.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of efficient and safe manufacturing operations to include product and associate safety, OSHA standards, product quality (success rates), throughput delivery and cost control (minimizing downtime and waste, optimizing yield)  
  • Demonstrated mechanical and spatial aptitude, including the ability to disassemble and reassemble equipment and the ability to formulate and understand complex mathematical equations.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills, to include professional oral and written communication, a teamfocused approach, and the ability to model composure/make decisions in stressful situations.  

 
Preferred Qualifications:  

  • A post-secondary degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Meat/Poultry Science, Engineering or Manufacturing Operations  
  • Prior experience with SAP or Infinity  
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred  
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Outlook  
  • Knowledge of general First Aid and CPR  


Supervisory Responsibility: Sanitation Supervisors  
 
Work Environment: Wide variations in environment temperature (-10 freezer, 32-degree coolers, 40degree plant, wet cold environment) noise, slippery floors and moving equipment.  

Physical Demands: Position will include extensive standing at times, sitting, lifting, wearing factory required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds and driving. 

Position Type: This is an exempt position. Some Saturday and Sunday night work required. 

Travel: Some travel maybe required for trainings and classes.
