HOURS:  2:30p.m. - 11:00p.m. (hours will vary) 

WAGES:  Commensurate with qualifications 

 

Summary: The Fleet Maintenance Technician performs preventative maintenance and general repairs on tractors, trailers, and refrigeration units to Company and U.S. Department of Transportation standards. The Technician is responsible for maintaining telematics on units as well as assisting other mechanics as needed.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) on tractors, trailers, and refrigeration units including technical repairs.
  • Installing and maintaining telematics on equipment (ex. ELD’s, RComs).
  • Assist in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving medium to heavy-duty truck related issues (ex. Steering and suspension, engine and driveline, batteries, tires, brakes, lights, fuel, air and electrical systems, instruments, and electronics, APU, driver controls, etc).
  • Assist in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving trailer related issues (ex. Tires, brakes, lights, suspension, air and electrical systems, doors, floors, sides, etc).
  • Assist in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving refrigeration unit related issues (ex. Batteries, starters, alternators, fuel and electrical systems, electronics, etc).
  • Utilize appropriate resources, such as parts manuals and computer, service bulletins, and other resources to research problems, determining most effective and efficient method for repair.
  • Remain technically proficient in all areas of the shop including tractor, trailer, refrigeration, tire, and basic parts administration.
  • Perform general or routine welding with or without prints.
  • Abide by all company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Use effective interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships with team members, all Brakebush Transportation personnel, and external vendors.
  • Help identify opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate actions, recommend process changes, and initiate improvements.
  • Help with efforts to reach goals of the shop, leadership team, and Company.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Forklift certified
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of applicable U.S. DOT rules and regulations.
  2. Diagnostic and troubleshooting competency relating to equipment repairs.
  3. Must have the ability to anticipate and evaluate problems and situations to draw logical conclusions to make successful repairs.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Basic PC skills in a Windows environment (Outlook, Word, Excel). Must possess data accuracy and the willingness to learn new software/programs.
  2. Use effective time management techniques and the ability to prioritize and multi-task without negatively impacting safety, performance, or results.
  3. Utilize sound judgement and the ability to make logical decisions in support of business demands.
  4. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain composure and react professionally during periods of stress.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  1. No supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment:

  1. Maintenance shop environment along with exposure to the elements in all weather conditions.
  2. Exposure to noise, oils, slippery floors, and diesel fumes.
  3. Wear appropriate PPE and other equipment as necessary or required.

 

Physical Demands:

  1. Must meet the Back and Task requirements for the physical activities of the position.
  2. Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals.
  3. Must be able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.

 

Position Type:

  1. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Must be able and available to work overtime, including unscheduled days or hours, as necessary.

 

Travel:

  1. Some travel may be required for trainings and classes.
