JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary: The Planner & Dispatcher supports company objectives with critical thinking and excellent communication skills. The position is responsible for coordinating safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation operations that meets the needs and standards of Brakebush.
Essential Functions:
- Provides support to our Drivers: The incumbent will be the primary contact for Drivers and responsible for scheduling that effectively utilizes each Driver to maximize both Driver satisfaction and truck profitability. Records and plans vacation and time-off requests from Drivers including notifying management and other departments. Utilizes resources to provide corrective feedback to Drivers when necessary. Processes drivers’ weekly trip envelopes to ensure accuracy for payroll.
- Provides logistical coordination: The incumbent will coordinate assignments of Drivers to schedules and equipment. Communicates departure times and other necessary information to Drivers or outside carriers to provide service necessary to meet the needs of the customer. The incumbent will coordinate, plan, and execute freight movements to meet the storage needs of the Brakebush Irving and Brakebush Grand Prairie Cold Storage as well as local deliveries as needed. Coordinates the assignment of outside carriers to meet demand and required delivery schedules. Create and send corresponding Load Confirmation. Ensures accuracy on all paperwork generated for an outside carrier along with the ensuring the performance of the outside carrier.
- Supports the Transportation team. The incumbent will provide timely input of data into the current truck management software system to facilitate freight and equipment movement, (accuracy is paramount in the entry and billing of all freight movements). The incumbent will make daily logistical decisions based upon product availability and customer demand. Executes backhaul decisions to maximize truck profitability and efficient Driver utilization. Maintains excellent working relationships with all internal and external departments and contacts. Cross trains to understand the responsibilities of other roles in the Transportation office to provide back-up coverage.
Required Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in the transportation and logistics field.
- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- A proactive problem solver with the ability to rapidly handle change in a fast-paced work environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills.
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Business Administration or Logistics Management preferred.
- Strong geographical knowledge is helpful.
- Experience with McLeod Software and PC Miler.
Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: The work environment is an office environment with standard temperatures and normal office noise levels.
Physical Demands: This position would be primarily sitting with little to no lifting or other physical demands.
Position Type: This is a full-time exempt position, 1st shift. Must be able and available to work overtime, including unscheduled days or hours, as necessary. Willingness to carry cell phone after-hours for emergency contact.
Travel: Travel up to 5%.
