JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Summary: The Safety and Security Manager is responsible for managing all safety and security related programs and initiatives for our two Texas locations (Irving and Grand Prairie). These two locations consist of a poultry processing facility and a cold storage facility. This position will provide overall leadership, professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of the safety processes for all aspects of occupational safety and health at these facilities.  Provide expertise and guidance to department Managers and Supervisors in the realm of security, injury prevention, and OSHA compliance.  

 


Essential Functions:

 

  • Manages Safety Program.  Works with Operations to maintain a workplace free of recognizable hazards.  Responsible for modification and adherence to corporate safety programs, administrative controls, and workers compensation/injury management. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory laws and governances.  

 

  • Safety Related Trainings.  Establishes and ensures all necessary trainings are implemented to achieve our facility safety strategies and goals.  Trainings include required compliance trainings as well as injury prevention initiatives.

 

  • Safety Champion.  This position ensures facility management incorporates safety into the company culture.  The outcome of these efforts must result in improvements for our work comp exposure as well as OSHA compliance.

 

  • Security. This position works closely with HR, QA (Food Security), IT, Maintenance/Utilities, and the Crisis Management Team to improve security measures at the facility as it relates to the security of property and people to reduce the risk of theft, property damage, product tampering, or threats of violence.  This position is also responsible for managing the third-party security provider.

 

Required Qualifications:  

  1. Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 years in an occupational loss reduction role or, 
  2. Associate Degree plus 10 years in an occupational loss reduction role.
  3. CSM and OSHA 501 (may be obtained within the first year for new employees). 
  4. Proficient in both oral and written communication.
  5. Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook/other e-mail software. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  1. Bachelors’ Degree in occupational safety.
  2. Food manufacturing experience. 
  3. Bilingual (Spanish) 

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has the supervisory responsibility of two safety technicians.

Work Environment: This job operates in both an office environment and a manufacturing facility. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.   

Physical Demands: The physical demands of the job include bending, sitting, lifting, driving, and walking on a food production floor.

 

Travel: Occasional travel, as necessary – less than 10%.
